Main stage on Saturday includes Night Fever (Bee Gees) & Abbamania

Beverley
Mahood is a headlining Canadian country star and she will be the star
of a free concert in Woodstock's Southside Park on Friday night under
the stars.
Cowapolooza
weekend in Woodstock is Aug. 14 – 15 this year, and the music of
Beverley Mahood – in my opinion – will be the highlight of this
year's 14th annual free music festival.
The
so-called toboggan hill in Southside Park provides a natural
amphitheatre and music lovers who pick country over other genres will
love the Friday lineup with Sexy Old Dawgs at 7 p.m., Leah Daniels on
stage at 8 p.m., and then Mahood on the microphone at 9. The show is
sponsored / presented by Country 104 (FM) Radio.
Mahood
is often described now as a Canadian country music mainstay due to
her album sales, chart hits, acting, concert successes and TV hosting
appearances on the CMT network (Including Project Mom / Project Dad
and Karaoke Star). Even though she was born in Belfast, Ireland, she
grew up in Ontario, attended high school in London, and she has been
a regular on the airtime charts since 1998 (Girl Out Of The Ordinary
album).
The
CMT website had this comment on their biography page on Mahood:

Beverley,
on her music ― “Each album I’ve done is reflective of the time
of my life in which I recorded it. “My music is the story of my
life. It’s honest and real. I don’t ever hide behind misleading
lyrics. As a performer and individual, I have my own style and would
like to be considered a strong woman with something intelligent to
say through a heartfelt sound.”

The
opening performer for Mahood is Leah Daniels, who is originally from
Uxbridge. Her biggest hit on Canadian country charts is Go Back.
The
Saturday roster for the nighttime main stage is an Abba cover band
called Abbamania, and a Bee Gees tribute group known as Night Fever.
I'm
not sure why a Bee Gees band would name itself after the Night Fever
sound as my top (dating myself) songs from the Gibb brothers pre-date
disco with tracks like How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,
Massachusetts, I Started A Joke, Words and To Love Somebody.
I'll
be honest, while it's easy to admire the remarkable career Abba
compiled with dozens of hit singles and millions of albums sold, the
Swedish quartet have never been among my favourites.
Between
the nighttime entertainment, there is a ton of fun set for Saturday
beginning with the annual soapbox derby down Finkle Street hill,
starting at 9 a.m. The races are sponsored by Heart FM (104.7 FM)
Saturday's
daytime show not to miss is Nagata Shachu, which is a
Toronto-based Japanese drumming troupe. The performance is advertised as 2-3 p.m.
The long list of additional Saturday events
continues with: children's rides, strongman competition, buskers,
cow-milking competition (I was second in 2013), secondary-stage musical performances, skateboard
competition, rock wall climbing, clowns, cotton candy, crafters alley, unique vehicles for kids and car enthusiasts to check out, food vendors, and my
location for Cowapolooza is at the Lions Club beer garden.
Additional sponsors do include Laidlaw,
TD Canada Trust, Kelsey's, Montana's Roadhouse, Sysco, Senator Homes,
OLG Slots, Vuteq, CIBC, RBC, Quality Hotel & Suites, Cowan
Insurance, Battlefield Equipment, GRT Excavating, and of course The
City of Woodstock.
