Woodstock hospital celebrated its 5th birthday this past November

The
Woodstock General Hospital marks a new calendar year by exclaiming how proud
their staff is of marks which the medical complex has received from Accreditation
Canada.
The
Woodstock hospital on Juliana Drive is just over 5 years old now and based on
comments from patients and overall assessments and from a visiting committee, the Woodstock facility has
earned its highest rating ever at 99.5%.
I’m
the first to congratulate the hospital and its services based on the size of
the city and keeping in mind that specialists are also available in
(relatively) nearby London, Kitchener and Hamilton.
Above is from the Woodstock Sentinel-Review
The
Woodstock hospital exceeds expectations.
Sure,
our community could always use more family doctors, but the availability of
healthcare locally is excellent.
On Heart FM news, hospital president and CEO Natasa Veljovic
said: "Every day, our staff, physicians and volunteers, work hard to
carry out our promise to deliver compassionate patient care and quality
services. Receiving Accreditation with Exemplary Standing is a testament to the
quality of work performed by everyone at our hospital."
Those sentiments or thoughts were echoed by vice
president of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer Jayne Menard saying:
"We can all take pride in knowing that our hospital has achieved this
level of recognition. It also assures our patients and their families that the
care and services they receive meets nationally recognized standards for best
practices and patient safety."
It
was just 2 months ago where the hospital celebrated its 5th birthday
at the new location after departing from Riddell Street and its historic
location.
The
hospital’s winter 2016-17 newsletter depicted many of its success stories,
including constantly and consistently adding more technology and patient
services.
In
the latest newsletter, Veljovic notes the hospital’s accreditation days were
Dec. 4 – 7, so their score of 99.5 came back quickly from the assessment team. At the same time, however, it notes that the hospital knew well in advance when their test days were.
The
newsletter, which is available to read online from the hospital’s website,
includes notes of thank you to fundraisers such as a vendor sale and a
donation from Thames Valley Chapter 101 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Back
on July 20 last summer, the hospital foundation raised $50,000 at its annual
golf tournament – due partly to corporate sponsorship from Kinsdale Carriers
and CIBC Wood Gundy.
The
newsletter points out the significant roles played by various departments, but
also provides insight in operations (bad pun) of the building with details on a
fire drill or code red exercise conducted on Sept. 21. I didn’t realize that
the Ontario Fire Code requires such tests annually in large medical buildings.
This would be one more area of peace-of-mind for someone who could be a patient
someday.
The
newsletter recognizes a long-time employee retiring and promotes the gift shop
and volunteering, but many serious topics are covered including safety and fall
prevention, innovations, and provides an overview of new equipment installed in
recent years.
The
keepsake part of the newsletter, however, is the overview of its history
beginning with a ground-breaking ceremony in November of 2008 and patients
arriving on Nov. 20 of 2011. Parts of the old hospital dated back to 1895, while
the new hospital has 178 in-patient beds.
