Save on the available rebates; save more on lower heating costs
Preston was once a town (now part of Cambridge); Preston is also a former furnace brand name

The Ontario Power Authority has the
authority and power to issue you a rebate on the installation of a
high efficiency furnace in your home.
There are dozens of local and area
contractors with access to these programs, but there is just one
Ontario Power Authority (www.saveonenergy.ca).
The rebates are available based on
which high efficiency furnace you install, including having a 2-stage
gas valve system, electrostatic filter, variable speed ECM motor, and
a communicating or programmable thermostat. I don't know what all
those product specifics are, but your local heating contractor will.
Some of these rebate ($250 or higher) programs, which often are
continued or renewed, do expire on Oct. 27, so act fast.
YOUR HOME'S MARKET VALUE
I've been selling real estate full-time for 16 years, so there are many reasons why you should contact me if you want to purchase or sell a home in Oxford County.
I've been selling real estate full-time for 16 years, so there are many reasons why you should contact me if you want to purchase or sell a home in Oxford County.
However, lots of people live in a
40-year-old home they love, which still has its original furnace. You
love your home and you don't plan on moving, right?
Updates everywhere in the home can
increase the home's efficiency, such as better thermal double-pane
windows, steel insulated doors, programmable thermostat (You don't
need to make your house hot when you're at work), caulking to close
up tiny gaps and cracks (check your dryer vent), extra insulation in
the attic or even adding roof vents (but make sure the flashings
prevent air / moisture leakage).
In my years, I still see Clare-Hecla,
Preston and Roberts Gordon forced air gas furnaces. There are other
names and brands which no longer exist as a manufacturer, but are
still in use in older homes. There is an old saying “they don't
build them the way they used to”, but the day arrives eventually
when the term “obsolete” supersedes the term “old and
reliable”.
This could be the best autumn for you
to replace the aging appliances (central air unit too).
Your heating bills will be reduced and
your home will be more efficient, and even though a new furnace could
be deemed maintenance, a house with a new furnace is worth more than
a property with a 40-year-old furnace as its the (appraiser glossary)
effective age versus actual age calculation which I often refer to.
Consult a few heating and cooling
contractors before making your decision. Call me if you're not sure
which HVAC (heating, ventilation, cooling) people you could/should
call.
THE LIGHT GOES ON
Let's talk more about having the
numbers on your heating bill drop as the Save On Energy website also
discusses rebate for light bulbs and explains savings on your use of
hydro in non-peak hours.
An old fridge or freezers gobbles
(Happy Thanksgiving by the way !!) up your hydro, so the Save On
Energy crew will dispose of your old condenser equipment including
old dehumidifiers and window a/c units. For specific details, contact
their website of dial: 1-877-797-9473.
ADVICE FROM ME
Even though the name Reliance is noted
below, do not rent-to-own (purchased over an extended time frame) a
furnace or central air unit from any contractor as it is just bad
math from the amortization charts of purchasing over time or needing
to buy out the equipment if you did have to sell your home before
your payment contract had ended.
