Chamber Of Commerce awards night is Nov. 4

President's Award is highlight of formal dinner banquet
There are many reasons to join the CofC in your community
  By Mark Schadenberg
An important method to pay tribute to someone's accomplishments is to present them with an award --- Juno's or Grammy's in music, an Oscar for acting or directing, and a Pulitzer or Giller for writing.
In Woodstock, businesses and business people are recognized annually by the Woodstock District Chamber of Commerce (CofC) and this year the awards dinner is Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. (dinner at 7; awards at 8) at the Oxford Auditorium at the Woodstock fairgrounds on Nellis Street. Tickets for the catered dinner and awards banquet program are $90 and are available at 519 539-9411. (Email: martha@woodstockchamber.ca). Even if your not a Chamber member, you can attend, and maybe you will join the CofC.

The highlight of the agenda – the 18th annual awards evening – is the long-time achievement President's Award presented by the current chair of the chamber's board.
Obviously there are many other categories in which businesses are nominated from top retailer, to large-scale commercial / manufacturing, and additionally ranging from restaurants to top franchises to professional services to trades person. The Woodstock chamber also honours new companies, along with businesses for leadership in innovation and the environment, and those with a specific entrepreneurial spirit.
Last year, retired Timberjack (John Deere) president Dennis Vollmershausen was named winner of the President's Award.
The outstanding food service winner in 2014 was Dee-Lights Bakery – a well-earned award for Dee White and her crew at a long-time Downtown Woodstock bakery.
Riley Manufacturing (www.rileymfg.com; 519 539-4830) might not be a household name, but the Woodstock manufacturer is very well known in the world of sports as the builder of goalie nets, and other specific projects requiring steel welding or other similar manufacturing systems (baseball bases, lacrosse nets, rink dasher boards, seamless glass, rubber flooring, etc. Riley won the manufacturing trophy.
Tracy Kaiman of Eden Bella Boutique won the community service award because as a cancer survivor she coordinates a charity where people donate new or gently used prom dresses. Some of the previous winners for their dedication to volunteering within the community include Gary Farrington, Glen McDonald, Rosemary George, Dave Beatty, Bob McFarland, Brad Janssen, Wayne Boddy, Betty Phillips and a pair of Tim Hortons franchisees in Jennifer Paquette and Leslie Farrell.

LOOKING BACK
The President's Award in 2013 was chosen to be Execulink Communication founder Keith Stevens.
Simon and Janet Amicucci were President's Award recipients in 2012 – a couple which gives back to the community in many ways especially through their restaurants of Montana's and Kelsey's.
In 2011 as the entire community of Woodstock was working hard to make the new hospital a reality, the chamber's President's Award was presented to the 'Hospital Foundation' with Vicki Davey representing the large committee.
Other winners from recent years can be read about in the links below.
By the way, if you have just thought on an ideal nominee for 2015, put your pen and paper down as nominations are closed for this year.
The format to determine the category winners is quite unique as the audience can vote that night on every recognition except for the President's Award.
The organizations website does list many other previous winners if you look under the 'About The Awards' tab

NETWORKING EVENTS
Naturally, the Chamber has many networking events such as Business After 5 on the second Tuesday of most months, the annual Mayor's breakfast, the Chamber golf tourney in July, and the social gathering known as Taste Odyssey in early March.
Build Your Business The Right Way is a educational current series offered by the Chamber. Monday, Oct 26 is the next session and the registration cutoff is 40 participants.
Lots of details can be discovered on their website.
As you can see there are a ton of reasons to join the Woodstock CofC if you're not already a member, and you can register as an individual or pay membership for a group at your place of employment.
