Getting the price right, winning prizes

TV Game show to appear at Budweiser Gardens
By Mark Schadenberg
LONDON – Tumbling dice, a dash of luck, spinning wheels, and sparkling household appliances will all be part of popular game show fun at Budweiser Gardens (www.budweisergardens.com) with two shows on Saturday, March 23rd -- at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
After you buy a ticket, be sure to arrive early to register as a possible contestant. A competitor?
The Price Is Right Live is on tour and you could randomly be selected from the audience to guess prices, play the interactive games and possibly earn prizes and maybe qualify for a showcase showdown.
The popularity of this long-standing television program is apparent as the 7:30 show sold out quickly.
Knowing the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of a new riding lawnmower, for example, may be enough to let you win the landscaping implement.
Ticket prices start at $26.75 (up to $56.75) and are available now.  For a full course dinner before the show, there are a limited number of dinner packages available (Michael’s On The Thames). Contact the box office for an evening of laughs, unlimited excitement, and an opportunity to possibly win a vacation or a sofa set.
Carey and Barker
Based solely on the CBS daytime game show of the same name – now starring Drew Carey after previously hosted by Bob Barker for 35 years – touring Price Is Right Live (www.priceisrightlive.com) has evolved from similar productions held outside a TV studio at various casinos.
The format for Price Is Right Live is essentially the same as the Carey show as contestants – it could be you -- are invited to ‘come on down’ to bid on merchandise. The winner will earn their way on stage to play one of the many famous pricing games such as Cliffhanger, Clock Game, Hole-In-One or Plinko. Contestants do receive an opportunity to spin a big wheel to advance to a showcase round. Scheduled to be host of the London appearance is Todd Newton.
As with many large productions on tour, London’s Budweiser Gardens is fortunate to have been selected for one calendar date to stage the show, which also makes 2013 Canada stops in centres such as Toronto, Oshawa, Ottawa, Kingston, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.
When appearing on the campus of Purdue University in the U.S. last year, a press release noted that the live show has been entertaining on the road for more than six years: “Playing to near sold out audiences, the Price Is Right Live has given away over $10 million in cash and prizes, and sold over 1.2 million tickets.”
Budweiser Gardens
Besides the tremendous sports events such as World Figure Skating Championships (March 11 – 17), OHL London Knights hockey, and the NBL of Canada’s London Lightning basketball, there are countless more reasons to plan your London visit around the Budweiser Gardens lineup for music, musicals, comedy and monster trucks (Feb. 16 – 17). Family entertainment includes the Sleeping Beauty ballet (April 13).  Top calibre music acts set to appear in the RBC Theatre setup include Diana Krall (March 4), Heart (March 20), Billy Talent (April 3), Great Big Sea (April 11) and Pearl Jam (July 16). The Broadway stage arrives in London with musicals Rock Of Ages (Feb 13), DreamGirls (April 30) and West Side Story (May 26).
