The world is full of record books -- in sports, music and countless other feats.
I don't believe I hold any records, but do feel it's important to start a new year by invigorating myself by remember back about 15 years and my tenure as sports editor of The Woodstock Sentinel-Review.
All life experiences create the total package or resume -- family, schooling, interests and accomplishments.
In the 1992-98 span, I was a sports reporter and sports editor at our small daily paper. The key to those words was 'daily' as when I was there the paper published six days of the week.
I worked long hours for little pay. Many of those long hours I admit were self imposed as a strong work ethic created local sports coverage to be proud of. The tasks to be completed only began with writing, editing, page layout and photography.
In my years at The Sentinel, I won a few awards and one media recognition overlapped into my real estate days.
Cut my teeth; earned some plaques
I earned a plaque from the Ontario Hockey Associaion (see picture) which noted our sports department's coverage of the local Jr C Navy Vets, but also Norwich Merchants, Tavistock Braves and Thamesford Trojans. Just three years later and then doing play-by-play on Rogers TV for Navy Vets games from Southwood Arena, producer Joe Brown, who is still based at the Woodstock TV studio on Pattullo Ridge for Rogers, and myself earned another OHA media award for dedication and excellence.
My book shelf also includes an honour from Swim Ontario, presented in 1996. Recently -- and now with myself as chair of the Woodstock Recreation Advisory Committee -- the City of Woodstock honoured Brad Sales by induction on the local sports wall of fame as a Paralympic medallist for Canada. The ceremony this past November helped me recall other local prominent swimmers such as Brad Vanderkam, and Piranhas coach Joni Marten-Sanders, and taking pictures at Aqua-7 League meets.
I make no apologies, this writing is designed to pat myself on the back and motivate yours truly to have a successful 2013 in real estate sales.
At the same time, since earning my real estate lisence in January of 1999 my marketing often includes the words: Discussion . . . Direction . . . Determination . . . Destination.
A real estate transaction is a journey, beginning with an initial meeting to discuss the end goal. Quite frankly it doesn't matter if the eventual destination is an out-of-province relocation or down-sizing to an apartment, a property must be sold -- with you as a consumer as either a seller or a buyer or both.
When you decide it's time to be in the market, call me. I want to work for you and I'm ready for the job interview. My sales packages include everything from school-district maps to amortization charts, an overview of closing costs to an extensive 21-point marketing plan on selling your home.
I have fond memories of reporting, and continue with some freelance writing and broadcasting. It's important to look back, but more important to forge forward as I forage for business. The work ethic and knowledge I had 15 years ago to earn these media awards, has evolved into a comprehensive education and understanding of our local real estate market.
In 2012, I earned the designation of Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES). Working for Royal LePage, there are added benefits for me and you: its extensive training programs and coast-to-coast referral groups creates the 'full cup' quality of service.
Royal LePage: Helping you is what we do.
