WOODSTOCK -- Entrepreneurial
spirit is important in the business world, so it must also be
important in the building (growth / expansion) of a business about
building (construction) commercial buildings.
In
Woodstock, TiltWall Ontario Inc. (519 521-9102) is busy expanding and
establishing its strengthening marketplace – building it up –
market share and overall awareness.
For
the Overbeek family of Len and David, it marks a combination of
intuition and finding a niche market in the construction of larger
non-residential buildings, but don't label them only in the
commercial category as their projects have included everything from
an indoor soccer facility (pictured) to hog barns, schools, to retail and
warehousing.
"Tilt-up
concrete construction is a proven method for building office
buildings, retail centres, warehouses, sport facilities, distribution
centres, call centres, community centres, manufacturing facilities
and other commercial / industrial / civic structures with speed,
safety and construction cost benefits," says the www.tiltwall.ca
website.
“The
use of tilt-up construction methods will lead the design response to
a contemporary solution with geometric shapes and clean lines. (It)
make a statement that the owner is committed to the use of
sustainable building materials,” the website adds.
Watch
the Rogers TV (Oxford County Living show is produced by John Payne)
video as attached below, which continues into much more detail about
why the company selected Woodstock and the Commerce Way business park
for its location.
The Woodstock building is photographed here:
Tiltwall
has been in existence since 2001, but is new to Woodstock at the very
visible 401 / 403 interchange and the Commerce Way park, which
already includes (among others) Sysco, Canada Stampings, Ancra,
Leon's Furniture (warehouse), Scholastic Books and the Canada Post
sorting depot.
The
company specializes in the tilt-up construction method, which
essentially can be described as building a wall unit on the ground
and then pulling it up (or tilting it up) into its position.
The
Woodstock location does triple duty – offices for the company, but
also a model of the construction style, and is large enough that
TiltWall also has tenants.
“Probably
one of the most unusual buildings in all of southwestern Ontario
right now – maybe even all of Ontario,” said Len Overbeek to John
Payne in the Rogers TV story.
“One
of the biggest advantages is that it's energy efficient,” continued
Overbeek. “With the new energy codes that are coming out, we are a
very viable option for all the building (projects) that are going
on.”
Overbeek
added the building method is also quicker than most construction
styles, and since the walls are load bearing much of the structural
steel is not required.
As
has been promoted many times in my writings, Woodstock continues to
attract more new business and TiltWall is a business that could build
even more new projects in and around this area – new commercial
interests attracted to Woodstock.
I would supply here the contact info for the Woodstock economic development office, but instead you may contact me and I will arrange an introduction.
