Dairy Capital Run, HUGO, FLIP, BSO and LHIN
By Mark Schadenberg
I like to read newsletters.
Just today, I learned a little about
healthcare programs called FLIP and HUGO.
The newest newsletter on my doorstep is
the Woodstock Hospital Newsletter, which contains more than a petri
dish of info – more like a large beaker.
The back page is important as it
promotes the annual Dairy Capital Run fundraiser, which this year
hits the streets of Woodstock on Sunday, May 25, beginning in
Southside Park.
For details on anything related to the
hospital's foundation (and the newsletter I'm referring to here) or
its fundraising arm, see: www.wghfoundation.ca
The Dairy Capital Run is celebrating
its 18th year and even though the new hospital has been
built (Doors opened Nov 20, 2011) and has been occupied for quite
some time, the money-raising efforts must continue as this year's
campaign includes the projected (hopeful) purchase of 200 Infusion
Pumps. For more details you can call (519) 421-4226.
Volunteer Foundation Committee
The new hospital was built with massive
community support in a program called Building The Vision.
Current chair of the Foundation is
Howard Cornwell and he is quoted on Page 13: “Your donations made a
new hospital possible and now, we need your support, so we can
continue to make great things happen.”
The Foundation does accept individual
donations, corporate contributions and in-memoriam gifts. Among the
other current Foundation board members are many well-known local
citizens – Paul LeRoy, Connie Lauder, Bill Mackesy, Paul Green, Pat
Logan, Randy Lee, Joan Stevens, Diane Werby and Ann Ash.
One departing board member, Bill
Carrothers, is a past chair and has been recognized in many areas in
this community including long-time chair of the Woodstock Legion
minor hockey tournament and thus has been recognized on the Woodstock
sports wall of fame as well.
I'm side-tracked a little.
You too can volunteer
The newsletter further introduces Dr
Mohammed Yaseen, delves into details about both FLIP (Front Line
Improving Performance) and HUGO (Healthcare Under-Going
Optimization), honours retiring healthcare employees, and displays a
tribute to current volunteers (Bob Brown is noted) and an invitation
for more volunteers. If you have spare time to donate to the hospital
contact Deanna Howell at 421-4233 x 3650 or email:
volunteers@wgh.on.ca.
Looking for an introduction to other
hospital services? You can discover more about the BSO Geriatric
Outreach Team (care of Alzheimer patients), household safety tips for
storing prescription medications, read about the hospital's infection
control team (What is C difficile?), and a great great-news story
(Trillium Gift of Life program) about one patient's new kidney.
Meanwhile, the Woodstock
Sentinel-Review reports that the LHIN in our district has approved a
new cooperation effort between hospitals in Woodstock, Tillsonburg
and Ingersoll, so you can find that link below.
