Local TV station looks at geography and demographics
By Mark Schadenberg
KITCHENER
– The K-W area’s CTV affiliate CKCO-TV has produced many news features of
interest, including a recent three-part series dealing with locationals for
real estate in the Waterloo Region and nearby communities.
Reporter
Max Wark (see link to website below to watch the videos) did a superb job of
balancing his profiles – including favourite areas for young professionals to
reside and an analysis of older traditional neighbourhoods.
The
series titled “Where To Buy’ has already aired (late May) so you will have to
search back on the link noted below, but it’s worth a look back at discussion
includes crime rates in various geographical spots – Uptown Waterloo, Downtown
Kitchener or maybe Guelph’s Riverside Park district? However, new homes in
south Guelph and near the 401 can range up to $500,000 for a 2,000 sq ft
2-storey.
Other
considerations include: Is your office and home near a fitness centre? Which
neighbourhoods have seen the greatest increase in home values in the past 10 years?
Did you know Stratford has three doctors for every 1,000 residents, while the Waterloo
Region stat is 1.6 doctors per 1,000. Should you live in the urban core or the
outskirts of a community?
Wark
even suggests that house hunters could look (and do look) at Fraser Institute
stats for top schools.
Where
should empty-nesters buy? Close to amenities like shopping and healthcare,
close to golf courses and parks, or near entertainment like the Stratford Festival.
